Providing Services for People with Disabilities and Their Families
Children and adults with disabilities and special needs find highest-quality services designed to meet their individual needs when they come to Easter Seals. Teams of therapists, teachers and other health professionals help each person overcome obstacles to independence and reach his or her personal goals. Easter Seals also includes families as active members of any program, and offers the support families need.
Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services: Bridging the communication gap between the Hearing world and the Deaf world acquainting hearing impaired people with the opportunities available to them in the areas of education,culture, recreation, political and social activities.
Autism: More than a generation ago, Easter Seals was front and center during the polio epidemic, working tirelessly to help children and adults with polio gain the skills necessary to live independently. And now, Easter Seals is working nationally to provide help, hope and answers to families living with autism today by delivering personalized services and treatments, as well as advocating in Washington DC to encourage Congress to finance research to improve services and supports for people with autism. Easter Seals affiliates across the country together offer 45 different kinds of interventions to address the affects of autism. For example, Easter Seals Volusia Flagler: provides early intervention for very young children with developmental delays and autism; works with children with autism, supporting families to find an approach that deals with the whole child; supports young adults, encouraging them to find meaningful employment and live independent lives; and offers Respite Care programs for families affected by Autism.
Audiology: Advanced in Technology, Gentle in Care Hearing loss can have a devastating effect on both children and adults. Easter Seals provides quality audiology services for infants and children ranging from diagnostic testing to hearing aid dispensing and service.
Pediatric Rehabilitation: Promoting Independence and Quality of Life Whether through a birth condition, injury or illness Easter Seals medical rehabilitation services -- including physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and early intervention -- are the first step toward helping people with disabilities gain greater independence.
Child Care: Providing a Learning Environment for Children and Peace of Mind for Parents Meeting a growing need for high-quality child care for more than 20 million young children and their working parents, Easter Seals offers child care for children ages 6 weeks to 10 years. Young children are welcomed to a unique environment where children of all abilities learn together. NAEYC accredited.
Camping and Recreation: Having Fun, Making Friends, Mastering Skills, Expanding Independence Camp is about all the things children and adults can do -- play basketball, canoe, sing, eat s'mores and more. Easter Seals camping programs provide a safe, barrier-free environment for children and adults to experience all aspects of camp without usual limitations.
Assistive Technology: Independence The Center for Assistive Services (CATS) is a place to obtain a wide variety of information about assistive technologies. The Center is staffed and an assistive technology specialist who has access to literally thousands of devices and services through books, catalogs, and a computerized guide. Assistive Technology, the link that enables a person with a disability to maintain or improve his or her functional capabilities, includes such things as ramps, hands-free telephones, communication boards, customized computers, closed captioning mechanisms and remote control devices. The program is associated with a statewide network called Florida Alliance for Assistive Services and Technology (FAAST).
Community Medical Equipment Loan Closet: Independence Easter Seals provides used durable medical equipment to eligible individuals with disabilities in Volusia and Flagler Counties. All equipment available for loan such as walkers, wheelchairs, canes, etc is donated.
Therapy in the Schools: Independence at school Easter Seals provides occupational and physical therapy to Volusia and Flagler County school children that qualify, based on state guidelines. More than twenty therapists travel to schools to evaluate children's abilities, increase mobility, provide occupational and physical therapy, modify classroom equipment, and, in general, help children participate as fully as possible in school programs and activities. All schools in Volusia and Flagler Counties are in the service area... 76 total. This year, over 750 students received occupational and physical therapy.
